Neil Ewin formed Visualfiles (originally Solicitec) Limited in 1985 after leaving university to market a conveyancing application that he had written in his spare time for a local firm of Solicitors.
With a borrowed computer and a £2,000 overdraught facility Neil slowly built the company finding his way around the various aspects of running a business. Mark Woodward joined him in 1990 as growth started to accelerate with new products and markets being added.
By the time the company was sold in 2006, Visualfiles was the largest supplier of legal software in the UK. The client list included 25% of the top 250 law firms, major banks, insurance companies, public sector organisations and utilities. Their 150 staff were spread between offices in Leeds and Southampton, with subsidiary companies in Glasgow and Sydney.
On route to achieving this growth, Visualfiles obtained a Queens Award for Innovation and was voted in the Sunday Times ‘top 50 best companies to work for’ for three consecutive years.
In July 2006 Neil and Mark sold Visualfiles to LexisNexis, part of the publishing giant Reed Elsevier, for an eight figure sum and both retired from the business in 2007.

"The influence that Mark and Neil had in establishing Visualfiles Australia can be easily measured the company would simply not have survived without them. Their years of experience in business management; the advice and support they provided; and their commitment to the business, were all significant factors in the success of Visualfiles Australia." -Bevan Read (Visualfiles - Australia)
